A Bit About Me

dmwpic4.jpg

I'm David Williams. I'm a writer who likes to explore the gaps between the 1s and 0s.

As a fractional Go-To-Market consultant, I help organizations build the messaging foundations they need to move from positioning and value proposition through to execution. Increasingly, that means helping teams figure out how to position and communicate around AI. The work often extends into newsletter strategy, thought leadership programs, and developing new forms of micro-media.

I write a newsletter called A Short Distance Ahead a series exploring a single year in the history of artificial intelligence — 75 essays marking the 75th anniversary of when Alan Turing posed the question: "Can machines think?" The aim isn't to predict the future of AI, but to understand how we got here, and how the futures we live with so often emerge sideways from the ones we set out to build.

Over the years I've led marketing and GTM strategy, I helped build a business model for a successful civic media nonprofit, and worked across agencies, media orgs, and GPG and SaaS startups — three of which ended in successful acquisitions.

I occasionally write for The Philadelphia Citizen. Long ago I studied creative writing at The New School in New York City and playwriting at HB Studios. I've workshopped fiction with Amy Hempel at the New York State Writer's Institute, attended Futurescapes — a competitive speculative fiction workshop — and was selected as a fellowship candidate for David Perell's final Write of Passage cohort. I'm currently completing my first collection of short stories. I've written television and film scripts and I am in the process of completing my first work of fiction.
